After receiving your appointment request, a member of our staff will contact you using one of the contact details provided, either later the same day or by the end of the next working day at the latest.

During this consultation, we will discuss the examination in further detail and check for any absolute contraindications—that is, factors that would prevent the MRI examination from being performed.

When can an MRI examination not be performed?

Your safety is our highest priority.

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) uses an extremely strong magnetic field. Before the examination, we must therefore check whether you have any surgically implanted metal object or implant in your body.

Absolute contraindications are factors that mean the examination cannot be performed under any circumstances.

We strictly cannot perform the examination if you have any of the following devices or objects:

  • a pacemaker;
  • a defibrillator;
  • a cerebral aneurysm clip;
  • a metal-based cochlear or inner-ear implant;
  • any other magnetisable metal object or foreign body remaining from a previous accident (for example, a metal fragment in the eye).

In these cases, an MRI examination may pose a serious health risk or cause the implanted device to malfunction. The strong magnetic field may heat or displace metallic components.

Most modern metal implants implanted after 2000 are MR compatible.

However, to eliminate all risks, we must always verify the exact type of implant and its MR safety classification before finalising the appointment.

If you have an implant, you will find the list of required certificates and documents in the next expandable section.

Documents required if you have an implant

What do we need to book your appointment?

Please email copies of the following documents to:

medicopus.diagnosztika@sic.medicopus.hu

  • Medical certificate or certification: a statement issued by your treating physician or the doctor who implanted the device confirming that you can be safely examined in a 3-tesla MRI scanner.
  • Hospital discharge summary: the official hospital document relating to the implantation procedure.
  • Implant card: the manufacturer's identification card for the implanted device.

We can only offer you an appointment if the documents submitted confirm, in accordance with professional protocols, that you can be examined safely using our 3-tesla MRI scanner.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding in the interest of your safety.

Is a referral required for a private MRI examination?

You may book a privately funded MRI examination without a referral.

However, obtaining a written recommendation from a specialist that reflects your specific symptoms is strongly recommended. This helps ensure that the appropriate and clinically indicated anatomical region and examination protocol are selected.

Determining the type of MRI examination and the anatomical region to be examined is the responsibility of the patient and/or the treating physician.

MEDICOPUS Nonprofit Kft. cannot be held liable if the examination requested by the patient or treating physician—because an inappropriate examination type or anatomical region was selected—is not clinically relevant or suitable for identifying the actual cause of the symptoms, answering the clinical questions or diagnosing the condition.

Requirements for contrast-enhanced examinations

The following are required in all cases for a contrast-enhanced examination:

  • a specialist prescription or recommendation (clinical indication);
  • a kidney-function laboratory report issued within the past month and including an eGFR value.

If you are having a contrast-enhanced examination, do not eat for 4 hours before the examination. You may drink fluids and take your regular medication as usual.

Preparation—what should you bring?

Please bring the following to your examination:

  • your medical referral;
  • your specialist's recommendation;
  • medical history relevant to the examination;
  • previous outpatient records;
  • reports and DVDs from previous diagnostic imaging examinations (MRI, CT, X-ray and ultrasound images), so that we can compare them with the current results and provide the most accurate possible medical opinion;

If you would prefer to send these in advance, please email them to:

medicopus.diagnosztika@sic.medicopus.hu

Please arrive 15–20 minutes early to allow time for registration and completion of the consent form. Patients arriving without a written medical recommendation or referral will also need to complete an examination questionnaire.

Payment and what the examination fee includes

The examination fee can only be paid by bank transfer or bank card.

The fee for a privately funded MRI examination includes:

  • performing the examination;
  • posting the written report;
  • providing the patient with a DVD containing the examination images.

When will I receive the results of my MRI examination?

  • Images: we will provide your images in digital format on a DVD immediately after the examination.
  • Written medical opinion and report: the radiology report is usually completed within 3 working days. We will send the completed document to you by email and automatically upload it to the EESZT system.

Thank you for making our work easier and supporting us through your cooperation as we work to help you recover.
